6 March, 2024SINAZONGWE TOWN COUNCIL PARTNERS WITH ENVIRONMENT AFRICA TOWARDS CLIMATE CHANGE AND DISASTER REDUCTION
Sinazongwe Town Council, in partnership with Environment Africa, is taking proactive steps towards climate change mitigation and disaster risk reduction. From February 27th to 29th, 2024, a training was conducted on climate change and disaster risk reduction management for over 210 community members.
The participants, including councillors, ward development committee heads, community members, and influential citizens, gathered to learn from experts in the field. The training was facilitated by the Environmental Planner, Ms. Mumba Pupwe, and the Public Health Officer, Mr. Owen Malawo, from Sinazongwe Town Council, along with agriculture experts from the Ministry of Agriculture in the district.
The main objective of the training was to raise awareness among community members, with a particular focus on women and youth. The facilitators engaged the participants, encouraging them to become part of the solution to mitigating climate change and adapting to the changing environment.
Participants were inspired to adopt climate-smart projects and utilise the CDF empowerment component for implementation. This initiative aims to empower the community to take charge of their environment and create a sustainable future.
Kudos to Environment Africa, a non-governmental organization working tirelessly in Gwembe and Sinazongwe districts in the Southern Province and beyond. Their project, "Children and Young Climate Resilience in Zambia," is making a significant impact under the guidance of Mr. Phigen Munkombwe, the Field Officer for Sinazongwe.
Let's join hands and work together to protect our environment and build a resilient community for future generations.
