About Environment Africa Zambia

EAZ (Environment Africa Zambia) is a leading non-governmental organisation headquartered in Kabwe, Zambia. Founded in 1989 as Environment 2000 following a 1986 “Save the Rhino” fundraising bicycle ride, EAZ has over 35 years of experience working to protect Zambia's natural environment and build resilient communities. We operate across four strategic pillars: Climate Change Adaptation, Environmental Governance & Advocacy, Resilient Sustainable Livelihoods, and Operational Efficiency.

EAZ is headquartered at Munkoyo Street 3B, Highridge, Kabwe, Zambia. Our programmes reach communities across multiple provinces, including Central, Eastern, Southern, and other regions of Zambia. We work with over 500 communities and have reached more than 70% of our target populations with environmental services.

EAZ’s vision is “A Self-Sustainable Environment for All.” Our mission is to contribute to ecosystem management, social-economic empowerment, environmental governance, and advocacy in Zambia. We deliver this through our 2024–2028 Strategic Plan.

Getting Involved with EAZ

Environmental Action Groups (EAGs) are community-level groups that EAZ trains and supports to carry out local conservation, advocacy, and awareness activities. To join or establish an EAG in your community, contact EAZ via email at info@environmentafricazambia.org or call +260 97 5263888. EAZ staff will assess your community’s eligibility and provide the necessary training and resources.

Environmental Champions are trained individuals who champion EAZ’s environmental mission within their communities. To apply, visit our Get Involved page and submit an expression of interest. EAZ will provide training, resources, and ongoing mentorship.

Yes. EAZ welcomes formal partnerships with government agencies, international donors, NGOs, and civil society organisations. Our partnership process involves an Expression of Interest, Alignment Review, MOU Negotiation, and Formalisation. See our Partnership page for full details or contact us at info@environmentafricazambia.org.

The Carbon Market & Climate Change

Zambia’s Carbon Market is an emerging framework where companies and governments can offset their carbon emissions by investing in Zambia’s forests and ecosystems. EAZ is actively engaged in carbon market advocacy to ensure communities — who are the custodians of these natural resources — receive fair benefit-sharing arrangements. Poorly regulated carbon markets can dispossess communities; EAZ advocates for robust safeguards and community consent requirements.

EAZ addresses climate change through our Climate Change Adaptation pillar, which includes Lead Farmers programmes, climate-smart agriculture training, disaster risk reduction, and grassroots climate advocacy. We also participate in national and international climate policy processes, advocating for full implementation of the Zambia Climate Change Act and alignment of government policy with SDG 13.

Education & Resources

EAZ’s publications, reports, M&E frameworks, and technical resources are available on our Publications & Resources page. Some materials can be downloaded directly; others require a request via email at info@environmentafricazambia.org. EAZ also distributes resources through community workshops, radio broadcasts, and a quarterly newsletter.
